Product Overview

iFiber Optix MTP / MPO fiber optic cassette modules are pre-terminated, factory-tested connectivity solutions designed for high-density network deployments. MTP (also referred to as MPO) cassette modules provide a clean, structured transition between high-fiber-count backbone infrastructure and individual port connections — making them the backbone of modern data center fiber cassette architectures.

Each 12-fiber MTP cassette features an MTP / MPO connector on the rear that breaks out to individual LC or SC duplex connectors on the front, enabling fast transitions between MTP trunk cables and standard fiber patch cables. Available in both singlemode and multimode configurations, our MTP LC cassette and SC variants are compatible with LGX-type rack-mount enclosures as well as iFiber Optix IFO Rack series enclosures, integrating seamlessly into any fiber distribution framework.

Key Features

  • Low Insertion Loss Optimized cassettes deliver a maximum insertion loss of 0.5 dB. Standard cassettes are rated at 1.0 dB maximum — both well within the IEEE 802.3ae specification limit of 2.6 dB.
  • Pre-Terminated and Pre-Tested Every cassette is factory-terminated and 100% tested before shipment, eliminating field termination, reducing installation time, and ensuring verified performance from day one.
  • Singlemode and Multimode Configurations Available in OS2 singlemode and OM3/OM4 multimode to support both long-distance backbone links and high-speed short-reach data center interconnects.
  • LC and SC Breakout Options Front-facing connectors are available in LC duplex or SC duplex configurations, accommodating the port types on virtually all modern network switches, routers, and transceivers.
  • LGX and IFO Rack Compatibility LGX-type cassettes fit standard LGX rack-mount enclosures. Standard footprint cassettes are compatible with iFiber Optix IFO Rack series enclosures for seamless integration.

Applications

  • Data Centers Ideal for high-density environments where rapid, reliable fiber connections between servers, storage systems, and top-of-rack switches are critical. MTP cassettes enable structured, scalable cabling architectures that support 10G, 40G, and 100G links.
  • Telecommunications Networks Suitable for upgrading or expanding telecom infrastructure, delivering efficient MTP-to-LC or MTP-to-SC breakout connectivity in central offices, headends, and remote fiber distribution points.
  • Enterprise Networks Enhance organizational networks with pre-terminated cassettes that reduce deployment complexity and support future expansion without rewiring. Compatible with standard 1U and 2U rack enclosures.

Why Choose iFiber Optix MTP Cassettes?

  • Quality Assurance Each cassette is factory-terminated, assembled, and 100% tested before leaving our facility — giving your team verified performance and full traceability on every unit.
  • Reduced Installation Time Pre-terminated solutions eliminate the need for field connector terminations entirely, significantly cutting installation time and labor costs on every deployment.
  • Scalability Designed to support future network expansions without infrastructure replacement. Add cassettes and trunk cables as your capacity needs grow — no downtime, no rewiring.
  • Flexible Configurations With singlemode and multimode options, LC and SC breakout choices, and both LGX and IFO form factors, iFiber Optix cassettes integrate into virtually any existing fiber distribution framework.

MTP vs MPO, LC vs SC, and Optimized vs Standard: What to Know

Choosing the right fiber optic cassette module involves a few key decisions. Here is a quick reference to help.

MTP Cassette vs MPO Cassette

MTP and MPO refer to the same multi-fiber push-on connector interface. MTP is the trademarked name used by US Conec, while MPO is the generic IEC standard designation. iFiber Optix MTP / MPO cassettes are fully compatible with both MTP and MPO trunk cables, regardless of manufacturer. The terms are interchangeable in most purchasing and specification documents.

LC Cassette vs SC Cassette

LC duplex breakout cassettes are the most common choice for modern data center and enterprise deployments due to the LC connector's compact form factor and high port density. SC duplex cassettes are preferred in legacy infrastructure and telecom environments where SC ports are already installed. Both deliver equivalent optical performance — the choice is driven by your existing equipment port type.

Optimized Cassette vs Standard Cassette

Optimized MTP / MPO cassettes achieve a maximum insertion loss of 0.5 dB using higher-grade fiber and precision polishing, making them the correct choice for 40G, 100G, and loss-budget-sensitive links. Standard cassettes are rated at 1.0 dB maximum and are well suited for 10G and general enterprise applications. Both configurations comply with IEEE 802.3ae requirements and are 100% factory tested before shipment.

Frequently Asked Questions

Optimized cassettes use higher-grade fiber and precision-polished connectors to achieve a maximum insertion loss of 0.5 dB, making them the preferred choice for high-speed or loss-sensitive links such as 40G and 100G applications. Standard cassettes are rated at 1.0 dB maximum insertion loss and are well suited for 10G and general enterprise applications. Both configurations comply with IEEE 802.3ae requirements.

Yes. iFiber Optix MTP cassettes use standard 12-fiber MTP connectors that are fully compatible with MTP and MPO trunk cables from all major manufacturers. Both male and female MTP variants are available — confirm the polarity and gender of your existing trunk cables when ordering.
