UTP/STP Patch Cords
In today's diverse networking environments, selecting the right cable construction is essential for balancing cost-effectiveness with signal integrity. iFiber Optix's UTP/STP Patch Cords are engineered to deliver reliable performance across a wide range of applications — from standard office spaces to high-interference industrial and data center settings.
Available in both Unshielded (UTP) and Shielded (STP) constructions across CAT 6 and CAT 6A performance tiers, these patch cords cover every copper connectivity scenario from basic office LANs to EMI-intensive industrial floors.
UTP & STP Patch Cords
Our UTP (Unshielded Twisted Pair) and STP (Shielded Twisted Pair) patch cords offer versatile copper connectivity for modern data infrastructures. UTP cords provide a flexible, cost-efficient solution for environments with minimal electromagnetic interference, while our STP versions use advanced foil and braid shielding to protect data signals from EMI and RFI in demanding industrial, medical, and high-density data center environments.
Both UTP and STP variants are available in CAT 6 (1G) and CAT 6A (10G) performance tiers — giving you the right combination of shielding and bandwidth for any deployment scenario.
Technical Specifications
All iFiber Optix UTP and STP patch cords are manufactured and tested to meet or exceed the following performance specifications.
| Feature | UTP (Unshielded) | STP (Shielded) |
|---|---|---|
| Shielding | None (Unshielded) | F/UTP (Foil) or S/FTP (Foil + Braid) |
| EMI/RFI Protection | Standard | High / Industrial Grade |
| Conductor | 24 or 26 AWG Stranded Copper | 24 or 26 AWG Stranded Copper |
| Connector Type | Standard RJ45 Snagless Boot | Shielded RJ45 Snagless Boot |
| Performance Tiers | CAT 6 (1G) / CAT 6A (10G) | CAT 6 (1G) / CAT 6A (10G) |
| Bandwidth | 250 MHz (CAT 6) / 500 MHz (CAT 6A) | 250 MHz (CAT 6) / 500 MHz (CAT 6A) |
| Grounding Required | No | Yes — shielded patch panel or keystone |
| Compliance | ANSI/TIA-568.2-D, RoHS | ANSI/TIA-568.2-D, RoHS |
Important: STP patch cords require a properly grounded shielded patch panel or shielded keystone jack at each end to be effective. An ungrounded STP installation can actually increase noise pickup rather than reduce it — confirm your infrastructure is shield-grounded before specifying STP.
Key Features
- UTP & STP Constructions UTP for standard low-interference environments — cost-effective, lightweight, and easy to terminate. STP with F/UTP foil or S/FTP foil-plus-braid shielding for maximum EMI/RFI immunity in industrial, medical, and high-interference data center environments.
- CAT 6 & CAT 6A Performance Both UTP and STP variants are available in CAT 6 (1G / 250 MHz) and CAT 6A (10G / 500 MHz) configurations — matching shielding level to bandwidth requirements across the same consistent product line.
- Premium Stranded Copper High-quality 24 or 26 AWG stranded copper conductors deliver superior conductivity, flexibility, and long-term reliability across thousands of mating and routing cycles without signal degradation.
- Snagless Boot Design Low-profile snagless boots protect RJ45 locking tabs from catching on adjacent cables during routing, removal, and patch panel maintenance — reducing connector damage and accidental disconnections in dense patch fields.
- Full Range of Colors & Lengths Available in standard and custom lengths with a full color palette for color-coded cable plant management — simplifying troubleshooting and move/add/change operations in complex patch environments.
- RoHS Compliant Both UTP and STP constructions meet global hazardous substance restrictions, ensuring compliance with environmental regulations in government, healthcare, and regulated commercial facility deployments.
Ideal Applications
UTP and STP patch cords together cover the full spectrum of copper patch cord applications — from simple office connectivity to EMI-intensive industrial infrastructure.
Office & Enterprise LANs
UTP patch cords are the standard choice for office, enterprise, and campus LAN environments where EMI is minimal and cost-effective, lightweight cabling is the priority.
Data Center Infrastructure
Both UTP (standard rows) and STP (near power infrastructure or dense switching) variants serve data center deployments — select based on proximity to EMI sources within the facility.
Industrial & Manufacturing
STP patch cords are essential in industrial environments near motors, VFDs, welding equipment, and other heavy EMI sources where unshielded cable would suffer chronic signal degradation.
Healthcare & Medical Facilities
STP construction protects sensitive network signals from interference generated by medical imaging, surgical equipment, and other high-frequency devices in clinical environments.
Broadcast & AV Systems
STP patch cords are preferred in broadcast and professional AV infrastructure where signal integrity is paramount and RFI from transmission equipment can affect copper data runs.
Government & Regulated Facilities
RoHS-compliant UTP and STP options with GSA contract availability — covering both standard office network infrastructure and shielded runs in secure or sensitive government facilities.
How to Choose: UTP vs. STP & CAT 6 vs. CAT 6A
Two decisions define the right patch cord for your deployment — shielding level and performance tier. Use this guide to land on the correct configuration.
Do You Need Shielding?
UTP is correct for most office, enterprise, and standard data center environments. Choose STP when your cable runs are near motors, power lines, VFDs, medical imaging equipment, or other strong EMI/RFI sources where unshielded cable would be affected.
STP Requires a Grounded System
STP shielding is only effective when the entire channel — patch cord, keystone, panel, and equipment port — is shielded and properly grounded. Specifying STP patch cords into an unshielded or ungrounded infrastructure is counterproductive and may increase noise.
CAT 6 vs. CAT 6A
CAT 6 (1G / 250 MHz) is sufficient for most office and standard enterprise connections. Specify CAT 6A (10G / 500 MHz) when connecting to 10GBASE-T switch ports, future-proofing infrastructure, or running longer horizontal distances with higher bandwidth demand.
Select Length & Color
Available in standard lengths from 0.5ft to 15ft and custom lengths. Assign color codes by VLAN, function, or switch group — both UTP and STP variants share the same color palette (Black, Blue, Red, Yellow, Gray, White, Green) for consistent cable plant management.
