ST-SC Multimode OM1 Ultra Fiber Cable

The iFiber Optix ST to SC Multimode OM1 Ultra Fiber Cable bridges two of the most widely installed fiber connector types in a single duplex assembly — delivering reliable 1G performance in legacy and mixed-infrastructure environments where ST and SC interfaces must connect directly without intermediate adapter couplers.

Combining the ST connector's bayonet-style twist-lock on one end with the SC connector's push-pull latch on the other, this cable eliminates the extra connection point an adapter would add — reducing insertion loss, minimizing failure points, and simplifying cable management in active patching environments.

ST to SC Multimode OM1 Ultra Fiber Cable

The ST to SC OM1 cable is purpose-built for networks where existing infrastructure uses ST connectors at one end — such as older switches, wall plates, or splice enclosures — while newer or upgraded equipment at the other end uses SC interfaces. A direct-wired assembly delivers the full connection in a single cable run with no optical joints, no adapters, and no added complexity.

Built on 62.5/125µm OM1 multimode fiber, this duplex assembly supports 1 Gbps Ethernet over short distances — making it the right choice for existing OM1 plant upgrades, mixed-connector patching environments, and any infrastructure refresh where replacing every ST port is impractical or cost-prohibitive.

Key Features

  • Direct ST-to-SC Cross-Connection Factory-terminated with ST on one end and SC on the other — eliminating the adapter coupler that would otherwise be required to bridge these two connector types, reducing insertion loss and removing one potential failure point from the optical channel.
  • ST Bayonet Twist-Lock The ST connector's quarter-turn bayonet locking mechanism provides a secure, vibration-resistant connection — well suited to environments where cables may be subject to physical movement or where accidental disconnection from a push-pull release would be a concern.
  • SC Push-Pull Latch The SC connector on End B features a clean push-pull locking mechanism that snaps securely into place and releases with a single motion — enabling fast, clean patching at SC-equipped panels and switches without tools or excessive force.
  • Low Insertion Loss Precision-polished ferrules on both connector types deliver ≤ 0.3 dB insertion loss (0.2 dB typical) — ensuring strong, stable signal transmission with minimal degradation across the full duplex OM1 channel.
  • Ideal for Legacy Infrastructure ST connectors remain installed in millions of active network ports worldwide. This cable extends the useful life of ST-based infrastructure by connecting it directly to newer SC-equipped equipment — deferring costly port-by-port hardware replacements without sacrificing performance.
  • Durable Long-Term Performance Built with high-quality materials and rated for 500+ mating cycles with less than 0.2 dB change in insertion loss — engineered for reliable performance across frequent patching and demanding network environments.

Ideal Applications

ST to SC OM1 cables are the right solution wherever existing ST infrastructure must connect directly to SC-equipped equipment — avoiding adapter panels and extra patch cords across a range of networking environments.

Legacy

Legacy Infrastructure Upgrades

Connects existing ST-based switches, wall plates, and patch enclosures directly to newer SC-equipped equipment — extending infrastructure life without replacing every ST port or adding adapter panels throughout the facility.

Data Center

Data Centers

Ideal for mixed-connector data center environments where older ST-terminated horizontal cabling must patch directly into SC-equipped distribution switches, media converters, or fiber patch panels.

LAN

Local Area Networks

Commonly deployed in office LANs during phased infrastructure upgrades — bridging ST wall outlets and riser cables to newer SC-port switches without requiring complete recabling of the horizontal plant.

Telecom

Telecom & Central Offices

Used in telecom distribution frames where ST-terminated legacy feeder cables must connect to SC-equipped multiplexers, media converters, and cross-connect panels in central office and hub site environments.

Campus

Campus Networks

Connects ST-terminated inter-building or riser cables to SC-equipped IDF switches and patch panels in campus environments undergoing phased upgrades from older ST-based cabling infrastructure.

Government / GSA

Government & Regulated Facilities

RoHS-compliant construction and GSA contract availability make ST-SC OM1 cables a direct-procurement option for government facilities managing mixed ST/SC infrastructure across aging campus and building networks.

How to Configure Your ST-SC OM1 Assembly

Four decisions define your ST-SC OM1 assembly — use this guide to arrive at the right configuration for your deployment.

01

Confirm End-to-End Connector Types

Verify which end of your run uses ST and which uses SC before ordering. ST is End A (bayonet twist-lock); SC is End B (push-pull). If both ends use the same connector type, specify ST-ST or SC-SC instead. Ordering the wrong polarity on a cross-cable adds a field swap that could have been avoided.

02

Direct Cable vs. Adapter Coupler

A direct ST-to-SC cable eliminates the ST-SC adapter coupler and second patch cord that are the usual alternative. Every adapter adds ~0.3–0.5 dB of insertion loss and another mechanical joint that can loosen or fail. For permanent or semi-permanent runs, a direct cross-cable is the cleaner, lower-loss solution.

03

Select Length & Jacket

Available in standard lengths from 0.5m to 15m and custom lengths for special routing requirements. PVC (OFNR) for standard equipment rooms, plenum (OFNP) for air-handling spaces, LSZH for facilities with halogen restrictions. Measure the routing path including any cable management arms before specifying length.

04

OM1 vs. OM3/OM4 for Upgrades

If you are upgrading existing OM1 plant, this cable matches your installed fiber. If you are planning a full infrastructure refresh, consider whether upgrading to OM3/OM4 (50µm) at the same time makes sense — OM3/OM4 supports 10G and future bandwidth requirements that OM1 cannot accommodate.
